BLACKBERRY GIN SOUR
This is such an easy cocktail to make, and it’s definitely a showstopper! The Blackberry Simple Syrup is gorgeous and can be made in 5 mins or less. I always love how adding citrus to it turns the traditional moody purple color to a bright, vibrant pink in no time! This drink is bright and tart with layers of spice and fruit.
If you’re a fan of a slightly sweeter cocktail, use the full 1oz of simple syrup (and you can also leave out the bitters) – but if you love a more layered, complex cocktail, I’d suggest leaving them in! Any bitters will work but rhubarb gives it a great depth of flavor.
INGREDIENTS
2oz Gin
1 oz ginger liqueur
.75 Blackberry Simple Syrup (use 1oz if you prefer a slightly sweeter cocktail)
½ lime
3 drops Rhubarb Bitters (or other flavor)
1 blackberry for garnish or an edible flower
BLACKBERRY SIMPLE SYRUP
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
6 blackberries
PREPARATION
1. Make your Blackberry Simple Syrup by adding 6 blackberries, 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar, to a saucepan. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer. Simmer for 4-5 mins, using a spatula to gently break apart the blackberries, until the sugar has fully dissolved, and the syrup is dark purple. Strain and let cool.
2. Add .75- 1 oz of Blackberry Simple syrup to a shaker, as well as the juice of half a lime, the gin and your ginger liqueur. Add in the drops of bitters.
3. Fill your shaker ¾ full of ice. Shake for 30 seconds.
4. Strain into a coupe or cocktail glass and garnish with the blackberry.
